Add Multi-Engine Privileges to Your Pilot Certificate

Step into the performance, complexity, and decision-making required to operate a multi-engine airplane safely and confidently.

Train in KC Aero Academy’s updated Piper Twin Comanche, equipped with a Garmin GTN 650, dual Garmin GI 275 electronic flight instruments, and a Garmin GFC500 autopilot. Its modernized panel, responsive handling, and true twin-engine performance make it an exceptional platform for earning your Airplane Multi-Engine Land rating.

This program is designed for pilots adding a multi-engine class rating to their current Private or Commercial certificate.

Includes:

Piper Twin Comanche aircraft
One-on-one instruction with a Multi-Engine Instructor
Preflight and postflight instruction associated with the lesson

Due to insurance limitations, the Twin Comanche is available for instructional flights only and is not offered for solo or personal rental.

The 10-hour program includes:

10 hours of dual multi-engine flight training
Six 30-minute preflight or postflight briefings
Up to four two-hour ground-training sessions
Personalized instruction with a veteran instructor and MEI
Practical-test preparation based on the applicable FAA Airman Certification Standards

Important Notes:

This is a Proficiency-Based Program
The FAA does not prescribe a specific minimum number of training hours when adding an airplane class rating at the same certificate level. The applicant must receive the appropriate instructor endorsement and pass the practical test. An additional knowledge test is generally not required when the applicant already holds an airplane rating at that certificate level.

Because completion is based on proficiency, the package does not guarantee readiness for the practical test within exactly 10 flight hours. Any training required beyond the included program hours would be billed at the published hourly rate.

This program does not include the DPE exam fee or fees associated with additional training if needed. Additional flight training will be made available to you at an additional cost

Flight Maneuvers Guide

Ground Session 1 — Aircraft Systems and Normal Operations

Become familiar with the Twin Comanche’s engines, propellers, fuel system, electrical system, landing gear, limitations, cockpit procedures, Garmin avionics, and autopilot.

Flight 1 — Aircraft Familiarization

1.5 flight hours

Cockpit organization, checklists, normal procedures, takeoffs, landings, basic aircraft handling, avionics, and autopilot operation.

Ground Session 2 — Multi-Engine Aerodynamics

Critical engine concepts, asymmetric thrust, controllability, VMC factors, drag reduction, single-engine performance, and engine-out decision-making.

Flight 2 — Maneuvers and Controllability

1.5 flight hours

Slow flight, stalls, steep turns, VMC demonstration, drag demonstration, and engine-failure recognition.

Flight 3 — Engine-Out Procedures

1.5 flight hours

Engine failures during different phases of flight, engine identification and verification, securing and restarting an engine, checklist management, and single-engine aircraft control.

Ground Session 3 — Performance and Flight Planning

Weight and balance, density altitude, takeoff and climb performance, fuel planning, weather considerations, and determining when continued flight is no longer the safest option.

Flight 4 — Takeoffs, Landings and Emergencies

1.5 flight hours

Normal and short-field operations, simulated engine failures, single-engine patterns, systems malfunctions, emergency procedures, and workload management.

Ground Session 4 — Practical-Test Preparation

Aircraft systems review, performance calculations, risk management, scenario-based oral preparation, and applicable FAA standards.

Flight 5 — Practical-Test Preparation

1.5 flight hours

A complete evaluation of the required maneuvers, procedures, emergency operations, and areas needing additional refinement.

Flight 6 — FAA Checkride Flight

2.5 flight hours

Fly with your MEI to your scheduled checkride.

Total planned flight time: 10.0 hours

Hold a current FAA-issued Third-class medical certificate.
US Citizen (international students, check TSA Requirements.)
Must hold an FAA-issued Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot Certificate
- If you have an Instrument rating, you must be current and proficient at instrument flying, or additional training will be required.
